The Heft

The Heft on Dragons Den

Snap On Secondary Handle

Secondary Lifting tool on Dragons Den, Season 7
The Heft helps keep your back upright
while maximizing your workload.
For all us us that has spent some time behind a shovel, this invention will definitely interest you.
The Heft attaches to any long handle tool giving you additional leverage over the workload. The inventor Marco Longley, set out to alleviate back pain commonly associated with any kind of long handle tool, and I believe he may of succeeded. When having the Heft secured on your chosen tool, it eliminates the need to bend over and not stress your back out from unnecessary lifting.

Marco is from Richmond British Columbia and came to the Dragons Den seeking $25,000.00 for a 10% stake in the Heft Secondary Handle. Kevin O'Leary who is known for having back problem in the past, agrees to demonstrate this add-on tool. Longley snaps The Heft onto a shovel in a matter of seconds which he can just as easily take off and put on another tool just as fast.

During the presentation Marco demonstrates no need to bend over which keeps his body ergonomically neutral in more of a standing up position. He has taken this invention as far as he can and needs the Dragons help to get these in Hardware Stores around the World. Ideally Marco would like to get a licencing agreement and start receiving royalty checks so he can concentrate on his other inventions.

Kevin O'Leary loves The Heft and continues to repeat that he thinks this is a good idea. Kevin says he will give Marco the $25k in advance, but he wants a 50/50 partnership.

Arlene Dickson sees this invention as the multi-million dollar idea that it is and offers Longley $250k for 100% of the patent rights and will give him a 5% royalty for life. She also wants a First Right of Refusal on any of his other inventions which could be a fortune in its own.

There was no question which was the better deal and one that fit perfectly with Marco's overall plans. After a quick call to his wife, he accepted the deal with Arlene with no further negotiating.

The Heft Update after Dragons Den

With such a huge potential having Arlene's team market the Heft and get them in Hardware Stores across the Country, in the end Marco did not accept the offer after the Dragons Den airing and chose to go another direction. He starting working with Canadian Manufacturers to mass produce the heft lifting devise shortly after the show.

Three months after being featured, Marco announced on his Blog that he has now teamed up with David Chilton instead. David is currently trying to put together a major licensing deal for such a unique product.

There is no question if I walked into a Hardware Store and seen The Heft, I would buy it in a heart beat. Until then you can get on his mailing list and receive updates as to when they will become available and you can buy one.
